Plant a tree!
The TN Environmental Council has announced its 2025 annual Tree Day event.

Tree orders are underway and continue through early March 2025. Order early for the widest species selection. To order seedlings visit: https://www.tectn.org/tennesseetreeday.html

There are few people known in this modern era that are as beloved as Mr. Rogers. And this children's show had some DEPTH. Let's explore how Mr. Rogers used the platform of his television show to build the Beloved Community.

On August 8th at 11am, we will have the chance to host an unveiling of an historical marker titled "Freed African-Americans Win First Inheritance Suit," a project several years in the making in partnership with the McKinney Center in Jonesborough. We would like to celebrate with a reception after the unveiling and need some food and cleanup volunteers.
Email Peggy at fellowship@hvuuc.org to volunteer!
On the morning of July 5 someone posing as a member of the congregation reached out to several HVUUC alias emails requesting the password to the members section of the website. This is a great time to remind us all to never give out passwords or other sensitive information to someone via email without first verifying their identity through a phone call. It is very easy to create a new email address with the name of someone we trust.
If you did give it out, please let us know at the office so we can fix our security. No judgement, just working together!

This is a yearly tradition in which a handful of your very own friends volunteer to "get up on their soapbox" to speak to use about something they feel is of great importance to them. This is our church's nod 1st amendment rights of the people of this country.
It is the custom of HVUUC to memorialize deceased members or long-term friends by having their names engraved on our Memorial Wall. It is time to collect those names so they can be added this year.
The first and last name are engraved along with the year of birth and the year of death. The cost for this has risen since it was last done. It now costs $250 per entry. While it is not required to donate the cost of adding a name, it is greatly appreciated.
Some church members and friends have already been contacted about having this done. If you have questions, or would like more information about how to have a name added to the wall, please contact Tish Kashdan at president@hvuuc.org.
Please return submissions by July 15th.

We are looking for Greeters for Sunday mornings and also a new Greeters Coordinator!
As you may be aware, after more than 20 years of coordinating Greeters for our Sunday services, Sue S. has retired. Please give her a round of applause and a big thank you the next time you see her! We are now looking for a new Greeter Coordinator. This person develops the Greeter schedule each year. After that, the Greeters are generally self-sustaining and trade with others if they are not able to serve on the dates they are expected.
If you have not been a Greeter in the past (or if it has been awhile), we would love for you to welcome congregants on Sunday mornings. If you have questions or are interested in participating as Greeter or Coordinator, please talk with Lori K, Membership Trustee, or email greeters@hvuuc.org Most Greeters only serve three or four Sundays a year but if you want to do just one or two, that’s ok, too. Thank you in advance for your help and participation!
In order to allow as many congregants as possible to participate in our Annual Service Auction fundraiser, the Stewardship Team is happy to offer the opportunity to work volunteer hours in lieu of paying for service auction events.
Here are the details:
-An hour of volunteer work is worth $20/hr. for auction credit
-There is a cap of 15 volunteer hours for credit per person
-The volunteer hours cannot be volunteer work that you are already doing for the church, but will be high-need volunteer areas determined by Rev. Tiffany and the Stewardship Team, but you will get some say in what you do
How it works:
You attend the service auction and bid like everyone else does. Make sure not to bid more than $300 total or you will exceed the cap on hours
When it's time to check out, let the person checking you out know that you are going to pay with volunteer hours
Post auction someone will follow up with you to set up a time to review the list of high-need volunteer work, and together you will choose what to do
You will get an occasional follow-up from that person to see how you are making progress in your volunteer hours
For additional information or clarification please contact stewardship@hvuuc.org
Volunteers needed for coffee hour for July. Please sign up on the calendar beside the coffee urn or email coffeehour@hvuuc.org. If you need assistance or want training, just indicate that in your email. This is good way to to meet new friends and reconnect with old ones.
