Task Force Formation

We ask that you be patient—with us, with yourselves, and with those around you. We’re all in uncharted waters, and we’re all doing the best we can.

HVUUC’s Reopening Task Force was created to research the ins and outs of reopening our church post-COVID. This will not be an overnight event. We will be guided by our UU principles as we plan. The president of the UUA, Rev. Dr. Susan Frederick-Gray, articulated these clearly:

  • As a faith community, we root our decisions in the values of inclusion and consent. We acknowledge and respect that people have a variety of needs and perspectives.

  • Follow the science. We are looking to the CDC for guidelines and local public health entities for regulations and data. We will remain vigilant and cautious.

  • Go slow and be flexible. We are consulting with stakeholders and subject matter experts, as we seek to understand the risks and benefits of various options. We will also try to plan for contingencies if conditions change.

  • Be humane and realistic with expectations of ourselves and others. Care and compassion outweigh speed and grandeur. As in most things, what we can do, or what we should do might not be the same as what we wish we could do.

To this end, we ask that you be patient—with us, with yourselves, and with those around you. We’re all in uncharted waters, and we’re all doing the best we can.

We also ask that you let us know if you have questions or input to the planning process. We will be posting our progress in the Reopening Task Force area of the HVUUC.org website. You can submit questions, concerns, and comments to us via email at reopeningtaskforce@hvuuc.org.
