In September, the UUA issued an historic statement affirming that civil disobedience and faithful dissent from oppressive policies and actions are fundamental practices of the Unitarian Universalist faith tradition. In exercising our First Amendment rights, some UUs have experienced violence, arrest, and sometimes conviction as a result. We take these risks because UU theology is rooted in dissent against oppression and the active pursuit of liberation for all people is an inescapable commitment of our shared UU values.
On Wednesday, Nov 18 at 3:30pm ET/ 2:30pm CT/ 12:30pm PT, join UU World reporter Elaine McArdle and UUA President the Rev. Dr. Sofia Betancourt for a public conversation with UU advocates for justice. Together they will explore the power and purpose of taking action grounded in Unitarian Universalist values. You'll find details about this event, our historic statement on faithful dissent and civil disobedience, and some recent stories of Unitarian Universalist advocacy in the link below.
