43 percent of Americans are poor or low income.
Members and friends of Holston Valley Unitarian Universalist Church and several other local justice-based organizations are heading to Washington, DC, on June 18 to join thousands of people of conscience gathering on the National Mall. Join us for The Mass Poor People’s & Low-Wage Workers’ Assembly & Moral March on Washington.
A bus has been arranged (departing from and returning to The Pinnacle in Bristol) for a very long day trip to join this action. This is a historic moment and an opportunity to step into Side With Love.
The Bus tickets are fully refundable until June 4, and fully transferable at any time. There is NO RISK to book seats RIGHT NOW. Here’s the direct link to purchase on the Bristol bus: https://rally.co/poor-peoples-assembly/from/bristol-tn. We still need to book 16 more seats to assure the bus will go.
Because this event is fundamentally about economic justice, we do not want the ticket cost to be a barrier to participating. The HVUUC Social Justice Committee, Religious Ed Collaborative, Youth Group and other supporters have scholarships available to help alleviate the costs of this trip. If you need a scholarship to attend, please fill out this form instead and we will acquire the tickets for you: [scholarship form].
If you are in a position to “sponsor-a-seat”, please contact Bob Warner for details about how to do so. Email sjchair@hvuuc.org or call 920-418-4862.
HVUUC youth (12 and older) and their friends are welcome on their own or with their families - the Youth Group is organizing chaperones for youth traveling on their own. Anyone below the age of 18 outside the HVUUC community, should be traveling with a family adult or guardian.
So, bring your food, bring your signs, bring your inner social justice warrior, and let’s rally for justice together as a church in DC!
If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Bob W at sjchair@hvuuc.org.
The Poor People’s Campaign (PPC) and Moral Mondays, convened by Rev. William Barber, is a national call for a moral revival, a continuation of the unfinished work of Martin Luther King’ Poor People Campaign started in 1968.
