“DEMOCRACY” – See UU Principle #5 - The right of conscience and the use of democratic process within our congregations and in society at large.

Sunday, October 23 after Sunday Service, HVUUC will “Side With LOVE” - in action - as we assemble to hand-write postcards to registered, but infrequent black voters of north Alabama, encouraging them to VOTE on November 8. We will not be telling them WHO to vote for or which political party to vote for ‘cause we don’t, as a church, endorse candidates or parties. But we DO support democracy – and the US “democracy” (now ranked 26th the in the world – a “flawed democracy”) IS on the ballot November 8. …as are human rights and Nature’s rights.
We are working through The Center for Common Ground within their successful “Reclaim Our Vote” program organization for purpose, structure and resources. We will be equipped with 250 postcards, voter addresses, specific voter resources and scripts. We will furnish committed intent, our time, our legible handwriting and colorful pens.
Youth in our Religious Ed classes have been talking about THEIR possible involvement in this opportunity as a part of their social justice theme for the year.
The Reclaim Our Vote campaign made a huge difference in 2020 and 2021 to rural voters of color who had no other contact opportunities. The message, asking them to check their voter registration, pledge to vote, and how to get information on when and where they could vote, empowered these forgotten communities while building a Democracy that prioritizes the voices of ALL people."
The entire Congregation is welcome to join us as we support citizens voting for the world they want for all grandchildren. Coffee hour will have drinks and cookies.
