Parenting can feel especially hard when the world doesn't feel worthy of holding your children. How do we parent as authentic, faithful, Unitarian Universalist when the world feels like it is on fire? The origins of Mother's Day is intertwinned with the Peace movement, and it gives us some clues about how we can do this. On this day Rev. Tiffany explores the challenges of parenting, the hope that we still have, and dedicates a new Peace Pole for the congregation.

We will have access to the entire campus which includes New River frontage, a babbling creek for water ceremony, turtle labyrinth, medicine wheel and peace pole as well as the picnic pavilion, bathhouse and, of course, the Peace Pentagon chapel.

The purpose of our gathering is to persist in bringing the frequency of JOY into our lives as we face difficult times. The greatest antidote to fear and separation is community, heart resonance and kindling JOY. And, yes, better together!
This gathering is flexible. Come Friday evening for a bonfire, drumming and stay on campus – rates ranging from $25/night camping to $100 for a private King bed and bath. Another option it to rent the whole house and share costs. Plus taxes.
OR – come for just Saturday.. arrive at 10 for a full day of JOY immersion.

Summer RE Volunteer Sign-up
It is time to get ready for Summer RE!
In the summer we combine our K-12 programming into one class. Each week we have a different topic or activity suitable for all ages. Last summer we had paper airplanes, dutch oven cooking, wildflower seed bombs, ecobricks, homemade pizza and more!
If you have a subject you’d like to share one week please sign up in the entryway of the church or e-mail Justin Ridley, dre@hvuuc.org if you are interested.
HVUUC issues statement on Immigration Support
HVUUC Statement of support of U.S. immigrants facing oppression, violence, or alienation
Our Unitarian Universalist Principles affirm the inherent worth of everyone. Our UU shared religious values, of interdependence, pluralism, justice, equity, generosity, and transformation, all of which revolve around “LOVE at the Center” require our sacred spaces continue to offer loving support and safety for those facing oppression, violence, or alienation, including immigrant communities, regardless of their documented status.
On January 20, 2025, a U.S. Department of Homeland Security memo rescinded protections to churches, schools, and hospitals from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). HVUUC joins the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) in challenging the ending of ICE’s “sensitive locations” policy, opposing any interpretation of law which would allow immigration raids in houses of worship and religious ceremonies.
Subjecting places of worship to ICE actions without a judicial warrant substantially burdens our religious exercise in violation of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). These enforcement actions at places of worship interfere with HVUUC’s religious activities and our ability to fulfill our mandate to welcome and serve all, including immigrants.
Specifically, this Social Justice Call to Action:
States HVUUC’s support of the right of conscience, non-violent civil disobedience, and the use of the democratic process to create a more just world.
Affirms HVUUC’s intention to create a Beloved Community where immigrant and refugee lives matter, unrelated to United States citizenship status.
Authorizes the Social Justice Committee to designate local events and activities (such as parades) in which HVUUC may advocate for immigration rights with a message of “Siding With LOVE.”

Flower Communion - Don't Forget to Bring a Flower!
Members are encouraged to stay after our Sunday service for our Annual Congregational Meeting where we will vote on the proposed budget for the next fiscal year and the new slate of nominees for the Board of Trustees.

“Flower Communion”
Flower Communion is our annual celebration of community through flowers. Everyone brings a flower to share, everyone leaves with a different flower as a symbol of the ways we learn from each other and transform together. Bring a flower to share.
Bring your Hangable Art to Display in the Sanctuary
Art work, from friends and members, is welcomed for the month of May. It will be hung in our sanctuary.
If you are able to share art that you have made that is hangable, please bring it to church on Saturday, May 3 between 10am and 3pm. Or you can drop of your art this Sunday if you’re unable to come Saturday May 3. We will hang it on our walls and enjoy it for the whole month and you can pick up your art again the first Sunday in June

Annual Congregational Meeting this Sunday after Service
Our Annual Congregational Meeting will be held on Sunday, April 27th immediately following the church service in the sanctuary. Childcare will be provided. Anyone who has been an official member of HVUUC for at least 60 days as of April 27th is eligible to vote at the meeting. Items on the agenda will include:
Vote on the slate of Nominees for Board of Trustee positions recommended by the Nominating Committee.
Vote on the 2024-2025 Budget. Click here to see the proposed budget.
Any other items as needed.
The complete Agenda, nominations as well as a finalized budget for congregational approval are now presented to you. Voting at this meeting will be in person only. Please make plans to attend. For the vote to take place we must have a quorum of about 55 voting members.

“Easter - Four Perspectives”
An Easter celebration highlighting the diverse perspectives present within Holston Valley Unitarian Universalist Church. This member-led service offers us an opportunity to hear about Easter, past and present, from four of our members, Denee Mattioli, Deb Helmer, Charlie Miller, and Lee Sinnot.
Bring Flowers on April 27th!
Our annual Flower Communion service is on Sunday, April 27th! Please plan on bringing a flower for this very special service: store bought, from your garden, or a roadside wildflower: all are welcome!
If you'd like to volunteer to bring in an entire vase-worth of flowers to share with people who didn't bring a flower, email minister@hvuuc.org to volunteer!
