Appalachian shOUT Listening Circles

We invite youth in our congregation to participate in this wonderful opportunity:

Appalachian shOUT, which stands for Appalachian Sexual Health Outreach, is a collective impact initiative that aims to engage community systems to support youth wellbeing and sexual health. Listening circles are the first step in this work.

Listening circles have a long history in justice work and community building. They give participants a chance to share their lived experience without contradiction or judgment. They support honesty and nurture compassion in an atmosphere of safety and equity. We hope they will help us better understand the needs of Appalachian youth and how we can all empower them with information and support to make informed decisions about their health.

Listening Circles are a way to gather information from the people most affected. Their purpose is to hear, not to teach. It will be important for facilitators to stick to the script to ensure that every participant has a similar experience.

We have scheduled a listening circle for Friday, April 1, from 6-7:30. This will be on Zoom. We would love to have these youth participate! Please register through this link:
