For $1500 HVUUC can get 125 radio spots aired on WETS during the year. We are $500 short. If we can raise the needed amount by June 20 we can get information about our church to a wide audience of radio listeners.
HVUUC has usually managed to raise enough money to get a yearly contract with WETS. Then we hear something like this on the radio:
"Support for WETS comes from Holston Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, a religious congregation working together as a church to share love, pursue justice, and seek wonder."
This year we are $500 short of our goal. Can you donate before the June 20 deadline? Pay by cash, check, or Zelle--just be sure to designate it for WETS. Thank you!
Beware!
Rev Tiffany and staff will never ask you for help getting gift cards or ask you to send a copy of our directory via email. These are common scams to watch out for.
If you’re unsure of a request be sure to check in with office@hvuuc.org or minister@hvuuc.org.
This report highlights accomplishments, challenges, and plans for 2026-2027. Our leaders are guided by HVUUC's Vision of "We work together as a church to transform ourselves, our community, and our world by sharing love, pursuing justice, and seeking wonder."
You can find the annual report in the “Members Area” of our website. If you need to password to the Members Area, email office@hvuuc.org.

What do we do with the word "evil." Many of us, who may have been called evil ourselves because of who we love or what we do or don't believe, probably want to shy away from the word altogether or claim that evil isn't real. But life in 2026 might be inviting us to name what evil actually is, and to consider what we might do about it. Rev. Tiffany offers her reflections on one of the big questions of life.

This sermon looks at the Good Samaritan story alongside real-life moments from hospital chaplaincy and wisdom from many faiths. It’s about how even short, unexpected encounters with strangers can become sacred when we choose to show up with compassion. In a world of passing strangers, we are called to be neighbors.
Our 5th Sunday Aug 31st is the Stateline Abortion Access Partners. They kindly requested that we collect menstrual supplies that they can give to women in needs. So far the response has been very poor. PLEASE DONATE to help this worthy cause! Bin is in the entrance to the Sanctuary. THANK YOU!
SLAAP is run entirely by volunteers and relies on donations to carry out our work. Your support will help us meet the needs of patients who seek abortion care in Southwest Virginia, overcome "period poverty" in our region, work for comprehensive reproductive health care education, and fight for improved abortion access for all.

Circle Suppers are a UU tradition that has fostered many friendships over the years. Our first Circle Supper of this year is scheduled September 19 or September 20. If you can't attend one of those dates, perhaps you will be able to attend in October.
You should receive a registration form via email this weekend if you’ve asked to be involved. If you do not, you may pick one up in the sanctuary near the Candle Card Box. Please return your registration via email or place in the basket beside the Candle Card Box. Deadline to submit a registration is Sunday, August 31, at noon. You will then be contacted by your host(s).

The power of religions to make homes, cross boundaries, intensify joy, and confront suffering. These reflections invite us to think more deeply about what religion is and how it helps u navigate the human experience.

The Music Team is looking for anyone who enjoys music that would like to occasionally help volunteering as a temporary choir director in the near future. James or Alesha will be more than happy to coach you on what to do and would only ask to schedule you for services that you are able and willing to be involved.

Social Justice Committee have purchased, "Know your rights" cards and placed them on the shelf near the library in the sanctuary. These red cards can be used as a reference for individuals and also handed to police and/or immigration to communicate constitutional rights; such as remaining silent and requesting an attorney. These cards are written in both, English and Spanish.
These cards were purchased by Social Justice Committee as part of the church's, "Statement of Support of U.S immigrants facing oppressive violence" and "Standing on the side of LOVE". This statement can be found at https://hvuuc.org/immigration-support
Please take these cards for yourself and anyone else who may benefit from knowing their rights.
August 6th is the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki which nihilated over 200,000 humans. This is a prayer that this never happens again. Pray for Peace.
A NUCLEAR PRAYER
The Beginning and the End are in your hands, O Creator of the Universe. And in our hands you have placed the fate of this planet.
We, who are tested by having both creative and destructive power in our free will, turn to you in sober fear and in intoxicating hope.
We ask for your guidance and to share in your imagination in our deliberations about the use of nuclear force.
Help us to lift the fog of atomic darkness that hovers so pervasively over our Earth, Your Earth, so that soon all eyes may see life magnified by your pure light.
Bless all of us who wait today for your Presence and who dedicate ourselves to achieve your intended peace and rightful equilibrium on Earth.
In the Name of all that is holy and all that is hoped.
Amen.
